The couples who are drawn to this self professed “weirdo” photographer (me, I’m that weirdo) often tell me they aren’t super comfortable in front of the camera. I work with real people. They usually aren’t instagram models or have any experience posing for a camera . But here is the beauty of being photographed with the person you love- you don’t need to have any modeling skills. You only need each other (and an elopement photographer who knows how to make you look your best).
Candice and Chase were a bit nervous on this chilly early November afternoon. I could tell they felt a little awkward or like they weren’t doing things right. But what they didn’t realize is that damn near every photo I took was cute as hell. They were so insanely in love that every time they looked at each other they both completely lit up. The smiles were genuine. The laughter was real. Candice and Chase are the kind of elopement couple that I absolutely adore working with- so in love it almost hurts.
We made our way around the French Quarter for an hour. I started at one of my favorite spots but noticed a backdrop directly next to it that I had never used before. Maybe it was Candice’s blue dress that made the blue doors against brick stand out to me. But it was sweet to use a new spot! It’s kind of incredible that I can photograph countless French Quarter couples in one spot and NEVER notice a dope location right next to it. Jeez, Lady. Anyway, I took a different route than normal and found a couple more new spots as well! It’s great to have tried and true portrait locations but I love mixing things up too.
From the Quarter we headed to City Park to meet up with my all-time favorite officiant, Reverend Andrew Ward. His wedding ceremony speeches are one part heartfelt and one part hilarious. He always has me laughing and crying over the stories of people I’ve only just met! Andrew not only has a way with words but his delivery is next level. Candice and Chase wanted something a bit shorter than his normal speeches but he brought his flair to it and it was a lovely little ceremony. (Shorter worked out well since it was a bit chilly that day!) As it turned out, they’d actually already been legally wed in Alabama (you only need to send in a notarized form in Alabama to get married. No officiation required!) so we didn’t have to sign paperwork or anything. We finished the evening off with some park portraits before I bid the couple adieu.
